The completed 2/2 crowns.

This case was presented to the laboratory where one of the lower rider clips had broken. It was requested that both rider clips be replaced immediately and cold cure resin should be used.

The original lower model (with implant replicas) was retrieved from storage and the lower denture assessed. It was determined that the lower denture fitted securely in position onto the lower model, therefore a plaster matrix would not be necessary for denture positioning during the repair stage. These pictures also show the 'bar connectors' in position.

The lower left rider clip has been broken by the patient.

A new Rider Clip and round bar (used as a spacer between the rider and the bar connector).

The round bar and first rider clip are positioned as shown.

Then the second rider clip is positioned as shown.

A wax relief is then placed over the implants, bar connectors and the 'locating lugs' of the rider clips as shown, to prevent the cold sure resin from flowing to unwanted areas of the implant system.

A small bur is then used to remove the original / broken rider clips and retention grooves are formed in the lower denture for the new acrylic.

The lower denture is then placed onto the lower model and the position and fit are checked and double checked.

The denture is then sealed to the lower model using sheet wax as shown. The lower model and denture are then placed in cold water and allowed to soak for 10 minutes prior to spraying of the cold cure resin.

After soaking, the excess water is blown off the model with compressed air and the denture dried. Cold cure resin (denture shade) is then gradually applied to the rider clips and 'repair cavity' until the cold cure resin slightly over flows the area to be repaired. Great care must be taken to ensure no air is trapped with in the resin during the spraying technique. The model / denture is then placed into a hydroflask for approx 10 minutes and allowed to cure in the usual way.

Once the acrylic is cured, the wax is boiled away from the model, lower denture carefully removed from the model and the denture is trimmed and polished in the usual way. Care is taken when polishing around the new rider clips area.

The finished repaired lower implant retained denture in position on its lower model prior to being returned to the clinic for fitting.
