Lower Multi Strand Bonded Retainer 3-3 with Jig.

</

The lower model is prepared in the usual method.

The multi strand twist flex wire is bent as shown, including an extension above the occlusal surface of the premolars / first molar teeth and lightly secured in position with wax.

Undercuts are blocked out using wax and a wax 'box' fabricated as shown.

After soaking the model in cold water for 10 minutes, the 'jig' is then ready to be fabricated in cold cure acrylic. Gradually build up the jig as shown and then cure in a hydro flask in the usual method.

The cured jig after the wax has been removed. (Lingual view).

The finished multi strand retainer and jig, which has been trimmed and highly polished.

N.B. If the clinician is right handed, then the positioning jig should be positioned on the patients left. This will allow the clinician to hold the jig / multi strand retainer in place with their left hand, whilst applying the composite with their right hand. Remember to ask the clinicians preference.
