During the numerous stages of fabrication a denture, there is one stage named the 'Try-in' Stage. At this point, the patient is required to 'try-in' a wax denture and an assessment of the contour, fit and tooth placement is carried out.

Occasionally, it is necessary to remove some of the denture teeth from the try-in (wax denture) for the teeth to be repositioned by the dentist / clinician or the try-in is returned to the laboratory for another try-in to be fabricated.

When the teeth are removed from the try-in, it is often good practice to place the teeth on a 'Tooth Placement Card' in the correct order and orientation. This will enable the technician / clinician to easily identify which tooth relates to any specific position within the mouth.

The upper and lower anterior teeth should be positioned on separate tooth placement cards, as shown. N.B. The shade on these particular teeth is A2 (left) & the mould for the upper anteriors is E5 (right) and the mould for the lower anteriors is K10 (right).
