The upper working model with bands on the 6/6. Anomalies are removed in the palatal area using an Ash 5 or similar.

A light pencil line may be drawn on the upper model as a guide.

Also, a light wax relief may be placed in the palatal area to create an instant space between palatal wire and soft tissue.

'Flat round' pliers are used to bend a 'U'' loop in the 1.0mm S.S wire (0.9mm S.S wire may also be used and some clinicians prefer the 'U' loop to be reversed).

The 'arms' are then bent laterally following the palatal contour and then posteriorly to engage the orthodontic molar bands.

The appropriate tag length is cut and the wire contoured to engage the orthodontic molar bands, ready for soldering.

The completed Trans Palatal Arch with a 1mm space between the arch wire and the palate / soft tissues.
