The upper working model is removed of anomalies using an Ash 9 or similar.

The upper working model is then soaked for approx 10 minutes to prevent the wax from sticking to the model.

A sheet of wax is cut, so it is double the width of the model.

The sheet of wax is gradually heated over the Bunsen burner and folded in half to create a double thickness base plate sheet.

The base plate wax is moulded to the fitting surface of the upper model using the fingers. Ensure the wax sheet is encouraged into the palate and sulcus areas.

The excess wax is then trimmed away using an Ash 5 or similar as shown.

A preformed record block is then softened in warm water. (The record block can also be fabricated by rolling a softened sheet of denture wax length ways, ensure no air blows are encapsulated).

The record block is then shaped to follow the alveolar ridge as shown.

The record block is then sealed to the base plate.

The posterior edges are angled as shown.

The occlusal plane is then levelled as shown.

Final smoothing of the record block is performed using wax knifes and a 'pen flame' or similar.

The completed Full Upper Record Block.

N.B.  Some clinicians request the rim of the record block be left slightly larger, to allow for reduction / customizing at the chair-side to compliment facial contours.
