Upper special tray for a single tooth implant. (Using light curing material)

The upper model.

For this particular case, the clinician requested a triple thickness spacer of wax be used, covering soft tissues and teeth as usual and as shown.

The light cured special tray material used.

A sheet of the special tray material is formed over the upper model / wax spacer as shown.

The excess special tray material is trimmed away to follow the contour of the sulcus or as may be specified by the clinician.

A sheet of the special tray material is cut as shown.

The sheet is then rolled, flattened and attached to the base plate to form the handle. The joining pieces are blended together using fingers and thumbs.

As this patient is dentate, the handle originates from the labial section of the teeth as the image shows. An edentulous patient would require the handle positioned so as to avoid contact with the lip.

The special tray and model are then placed into the light curing unit and the light curing process commenced.

Once cured, the special tray is boiled free of wax and may be placed again into the light curing unit to cure the 'inside' of the handle area if necessary.

A selection of burs used to trim and smooth the periphery of the special tray.

The special tray is contoured and the fit checked against the upper model.

An 'open top' is made in this particular special tray as it is to be used for a single tooth implant impression.

(Tooth to be extracted).
